    CNA Prayer

I found this prayer on another website and thought it would be good to keep on my space...

    The Certified Nurse Assistant
    Our Prayer

As I enter into my place of calling
I ask for strength as I help those in needing
Hide my tears for the sick and aging
and let my smile be the hope they're seeking.
Guide my hands as they do for them
The things they cannot do, and we take for granted
Allow my eyes to see those things
that make my stay with them a blessing
Provide the words I need to speak
To let them know I love them so.
As I do my work throughout the day
It is for my residents that I stay,
and for my residents that I pray.

    Job Hunting

I got online and searched for Nursing Homes and Hospitals in the area to look into for possible job leads. There were several nursing homes and two hospitals.
I drove around looking at the facilities. There was one facility that made me wonder how it even passes state inspections. I wouldn't want to work there, let alone be a resident there...ever.
The rest of the facilities looked pretty good so I picked up applications, filled them all out and returned them the next day.
I had an interview with Facility 1. It was huge but very nice. They have a zero tolerance policy for gait belts. If they see you not using one, you're done. That is very good for safety.
Then I had an interview with Facility 2. I was very much impressed with the building and the staff that I met. Very nice.
Interview with Facility 3 confused me a bit. The opening they offered was RPT, which in most places is 32 hours a week. This one said it was 20 hours per week. This facility is a Hospital in the Surgical Dept.
I have one more Facility (4)  that I want to have an interview with. I called them and the head person there is on vacation for a week, so they said not to expect any calls until the following week.
But getting three interviews within a week is pretty good, I think.
I'm just eager to get started!

    Getting My CNA

    "TESTING"
Donna came in and gave me my certificate from class since I wasn't there last Tuesday since I was in Burlington. On it she wrote that I "PASSED" and that my grade for the class was an "A".

The person from state finally handed out the test booklets and answer sheets at 2:00 pm. There were 100 questions... most worded well. About five of them were the ones where all the answers are correct, but I had to pick the
one that was "most correct". I hate those kind of questions. But I think I did good.

Then they started giving the skilled exams. I was the last person to get to take the exam... so, I sat there and waited, and waited  and waited some more... until I was finally called in at 8:45 pm. Sue explained to me that my patient/resident  "Mrs. Mayfield") was 88 years old and needed to use a bedpan and that I needed to take a urine specimen, and then get Mrs. Mayfield up out of bed and into her wheel chair and then apply TED hose. That was my test... seemed simple enough... YEAH, right!....... I was so nervous.. I had five hours of waiting... built up nerves to deal with. I was a fumbling idiot! LOL! I was shaking so hard... I felt sick to my stomach....
At least, that's what I felt like. But in the end, the State evaluator (Sue) said that I nailed all the important parts... that I just forgot some of the little things that aren't important to safety... such as my own name. LOL!
So I passed the Skilled part of the exam.
But I have to wait 1.5 - 3 weeks before I get the results of the written exam. However, Sue asked me if I applied for any jobs yet and I told her no and she told me that I should. So, that was very nice of her to say.

Sitting there the five hours that I did... I thought for sure as people kept coming out a lot looking not happy, that I was not going to pass the skilled part.

Well, so, this is actually EXCITING NEWS! I PASSED and am a C.N.A.
    YaHOO!

    State Tournament

Game one - Saturday, 3:00pm, 95 degrees, heat index... 100 degrees, no breeze...

Boone defeated North Polk 13 - 8 in pool play.  After trailing by a  6 - 3 score, they got the lead back at 6 - 7, then led 10 - 6 in the fourth inning.
North Polk scored once in the first inning, scored four in the second inning, and added another run in the third inning.
Scoring runs for Boone were Mackenzie Anderson - 2, Makenna Slight - 2, Chelsea Riordan - 2, Elainie Stensland - 2, Emma Denning - 1, Brittany Musser - 1, Emily Hackenmiller - 1, and Mollie Frazier - 1. An in the park home run was hit by Chelsea Riordan.
Pitcher for Boone was Chelsea Riordan.

Game two - Sunday, 3:00pm, 102 degrees, heat index 105, slight breeze...

Boone defeated North East Iowa 13 - 10. This was a very good game but I don't have much details about it as .. I was busy watching the game and not writing this time! Great game for the girls! Pitcher for Boone was Amber Breitbarth.

Game three  - Monday, 8:00pm, cool with a TON of bugs...lol
Boone lost this game versus Grandview of Des Moines but stunned them because they had been blowing all the other teams out of the park. This was a very exciting game and again, I don't have much for details other than the score which was Boone 3, and GV 6. Pitcher for Boone was Chelsea Riordan.

Game four - Rained postponed to Wednesday, 3:00pm, but since everyone was there, they started early at 2:45pm. 76 degrees...

Boone played on the visitor side against Mahaska County and the winner of this game got to move on to the State Championship game later that evening. Boone drew the visitor side again. We kept book this time but the Grand View lineup is hard to follow as they sub their players all over the place, not three in and three out like Boone does so their side is kind of sloppy, but... I have the most important details about that anyway...so this will be a long write up...
    .......
MC had five batters the first inning, three hits, scored one run. Mackenzie Anderson and Makenna Slight threw runners out at first, Chelsea Riordan, and the third out was a pop fly to the pitcher, Brittany Musser. Batters for Boone were Mackenzie Anderson who drew a walk, McKenna Slight who hit to the third baseman but was thrown out at first, then Amber Brietbarth, who hit to the pitcher and was thrown out at first.
In the second inning, MC had seven batters, six hits, one walk, and scored three runs. Definsively, a hit to the pitcher, (Brittany M) resulted in a thrown out at first (Chelsea), a hit to third (Elainie) resulted in a thrown out at first (Chelsea), and a Pop Fly was caught by Mackenzie as second base. Bringing Boone up to bat again. Boone had five batters, two hits, two walks, one strikeout, and scored one run. Batters were Chelsea - walked, Elainie - struck out, Mollie Frazier hit to right field but got out at first, Brittany Warrick - walked, and Emma Denning hit to right field but got out at first.
The third inning MC had three batters, two hits, one strikeout, no runs. Defensivley, a hit to the pitcher (Brittany M.) resulted in an out at first, and a pop fly to third base was caught by Elainie. Seven batters for Boone had three hits, two stirke outs, two walks, and scored two runs bringing the score to Boone 3, MC 4. Starting with the Pitcher Brittany Musser who walked but Alison Brooks was put in as a pinch runner... Mackenzie hit, Makenna hit a pop fly to third that was caught, Amber hit, Chelsea hit, then Alison (pinch runner) got out at home, then Mollie hit to the pitcher and got out at first.
The fourth inning MC had three up, three down... The first out was a pop fly hit to third base (Elainie), the second batter struck out not swinging, and the third batter hit a pop fly to third base (Elainie). Boone came back up to bat hungry to take the lead and that's exactly what they did, but it was nail biting... The first batter was Brittany W. who walked, then Emma Denning struck out swinging, then Brittany Musser struck out not swinging. This brought Mackenzie Anderson who drew a walk, then Makenna and Amber both got hits. Chelsea was the last batter and she struck out. Brittany W. and Mackenzie were the runners who scored giving Boone the lead 5 - 4.
Inning number five   started off with another pop fly to third base and was caught by Elainie. A runner was out at second by Makenna, and a pop fly to center field was caught by Lindsey Tjernagle. MC had five batters, five hits, and no score!
The "do I have any nails left to bite?" INNING NUMBER SIX ... Boone had seven batters, five hits, one walk, and scored three runs bringing the score to 8 - 4 at the switch. Boone started off with Brittany Musser striking out. Emily Hackenmiller had a great hit. Then Mackenzie hit a pop fly to the short stop for the second out. This brought up Makenna who had a hit and was barely safe at first... whew!.... Then Amber got hit by the ball so she took a base. Chelsea hit a triple bringing them all home. Elainie struck out for the third out. This brought MC up to bat for the final bat of the game. They started off with a bang of a hit but we were able to get the ball in fast to hold the runner at first. The next batter got walked, the third batter hit and scored...runs 5 and 6... the next batter hit a pop fly to third that was caught by Elainie for the first out. The next batter hit to Mackenzie who got a runner out at second. Run number 7 made it home on that play. The tying run was now on third base... there were two outs. The batter swung the bat and the ball flew over third base to the right fielder, Emily Hackenmiller, who got it on the bounce, threw it to Elainie at third, who turned and threw it to Amber at Home and they got the runner out at home to end the game! It was awesome! All the girls started screaming... the MC coach at third hit the ground on his hands and knees... the runner started crying... Boone girls all huddled around Amber and Elainie and were just screaming... Mike, Dave, and Brenda ran out on the field and they were all teary eyed. It was just the best win ever!

Championship Game, 65 -70 some odd degrees, 7:30 pm

This game was good, the girls played their hearts out to get on the board but it just wasn't meant to be. Grandview won the game with a score of
9 - 0. Every inning except the third and sixth was three up three down for Boone girls. The only batters to bat twice were Mackenzie, Makenna, Amber and Chelsea. Boone had 16 hits total, four strikeouts, and no walks.
Grandview had 16 hits total, two strikeouts, and five walks.
This was the only game that Grand view pitched the same pitcher the whole game. All the other games they pitched a new pitcher every inning.
Pitcher for Boone was Chelsea Riordan.
The coaches for Boone gave a small speech after the game. They said that they were so proud of the girls. He said that this year has been his funnest year because of not just what went on on the field, but because he felt this team really pulled together both on and off the field with parents and the girls. Brenda said that she thought it was the best team she has ever been a part of because of the same reasons. Way to go Boone!

    Update!

It has been quite a while since I have made an entry into this blog and since i have nothing more pressing to do this morning, I thought I'd get r done!

Two exciting things happend in the last few weeks.
First, I finished my class and passed with an "A" then I took the state Exam and passed the skilled test. I have to wait three weeks for results of the written part, but I'm not too worried about that.
Second, the Major girls All-Stars team went to the State Tournament in Burlington, IA, and they made it into the Championship game. It was so awesome! It has been a long time since Boone Major Girls team has made it into that game. Though they didn't win the Championship game, they are all Champions to me.
I will seperate those into individual blogs in a few minutes because I have so much to tell that this one blog would go on and on and on.
