    Deal's!

Elainie, Alexis, and I went to Deal's Orchard in Jefferson on Sunday. The girls had a blast!
We went on the hayrack ride, through the petting zoo and corn maze, stores, pet the ponies, and picked out some rather large pumpkins from the pumpkin patch. They had other stuff to do but we got so tired!

The corn maze is on 4 acres. If you walk the entire maze, you will walk 1 1/2 miles. From the air it looks like funny alien writing... LOL!... It also shapes a scarecrow, a sun, and the words, "DEAL 2006."

We also had a nice visit with the Johnson family while in Jefferson.

I've attached some photos but they were taken with my cell phone so... not the best quality of photos!

    Happy Harvest!

    Stuff for Thought

Always and Never are two words that you should always remember to never say.

    The Servant's Reward
One day, when you are in heaven,
someone will come up to you and thank
you for the way you touched their life with
    hope and encouragement. The person's
words will take you by surprise. Soon
another person will seek you out, and then
    another, and another.
As you listen to each one's story, you will
begin to discover all the ways that God
used your life when you were completely
unaware of it. You will find that it was not
only through the big things you did, but
also through the small things - through
a spoken word that was not planned, a
spontaneous act of kindness, a loving
attitude, or a simple prayer of concern.
To your joy, you will discover that in
all these ways and more, God used you to
deposit an eternal measure of His love
    into many needy hearts.
    ~Roy Lessin
    Inside the card says:
God is using you in more ways than you can ever imagine,
and you are appreciated so much.
"...Well done, good and faithful servant!...Come and share your master's happiness!"

    Week One

I've been at my new job now for a little over one week.
I really like it. It has slow nights and busy nights.
At 11pm, I get the nurses report, then do rounds to make sure the residents are all still in their beds and have not fallen to the floor and to make sure they are still breathing. If any are awake, I try to encourage them to get to bed and have a good night's sleep.
From there on I have a list of things I need to do but can do them whenever I want. I try to get most of them out of the way early because I never know what might happen later on. I do laundry for the unit, some light housekeeping, rounds every two hours, and take the breakfast menu to the HCC kitchen at 3:30am. Stuff that happens in between all that can take up some time such as answering call lights and helping those who need to either go to the bathroom or just need someone to talk to.
The first two nights I orientated by following DeNeil, CNA around. The third night I was somewhat on my own, but DeNeil was there to back me if I needed help. The next two nights I was off orientation.
Then I had the weekend off and returned on Sunday evening.
What do we do when there is "nothing to do" (which does occur once in awhile)?
We watch the big screen tv. Sometimes when it is just the nurse and I we watch HGTV.
When there is a resident up with us, we watch whatever the resident wants. I've seen the movie "Speedway" with Elvis Presley three times now. One night we also watched "Homeward Bound."
The most challenging aspect of the job is the same as my other and that was when the residents get down on themselves and I have to get them redirected to happy thoughts.
I really love working there and it has been working out rather well for my family too.
