October 31 My JobI started working part time (24 hrs. per week) at a Retirement Community on Aug. 30th. It has a Healthcare Center, a dementia unit and does Home Care. I get to do a lot of care taking! Recently I was offered full time and I accepted that. Now I'm working 32 hours per week and qualify for benefits.
I am working hard, providing the best care I can. I envision the residents as my own family and treat them with the respect I think most the people in my family deserve. I have become quite close to some of them. They are some of the best people I have ever met!
I also love working with my co-workers! They are a great bunch of people! I don't think I could ask for better people to work with!
On the down side of my work is death. I have experienced the death of two people who were really special to me. Of course, all my 'friends' are special, but this is a normal progression in my work that I will have to get used to. It is hard to see someone you take care of for a month or a year or even longer, pass on. They will be missed.
On another note, I have also set up so that I can gain a few more hours working PRN at other LTC Facilities. I'm hoping to get more hours somewhere. |
